IP Market 2.0

The overview

As one of the world’s great IP hubs, San Francisco is an ideal location in which to hold IPBC Global 2015. And there is no better place to host the event than the prestigious Palace Hotel, venue of the last West Coast IPBC Global in 2011.

We return to the Bay Area at a highly opportune time, with significant changes taking place in both the US and global IP environments. Legislation, court decisions, heightened regulatory scrutiny and, in Europe, plans for a unitary patent and court present significant challenges. For those who can rise to them, there are many exciting opportunities ahead. On the other hand, those who fail to grasp the full implications of recent developments run the very real risk of being left behind.

Under the banner of “IP Market 2.0”, IPBC Global 2015 will take a detailed look at the developing IP landscape in the United States and abroad, and ask how it affects not only IP owners, but also aggregators, investors and intermediaries.

As ever, the IPBC Global focus will be on value creation and the ways in which to develop strategies to maximise its potential. We will take a close look at emerging IP-based business models and strategies designed to reflect the IP market’s new realities and work out what can be learned from them. We will also scrutinise the ever-closer relationship between company boards and corporate IP groups. In short, we will reflect on the changes in the IP market that have already occurred, while contemplating what will happen next.

IPBC Global is the world’s pre-eminent gathering of senior IP business decision makers. Drawing on the large community of thought leaders based in San Francisco and Silicon Valley, as well those from further afield in the United States and abroad, the 2015 event will offer unrivalled opportunities to discuss cutting-edge issues and network with the people who make the IP weather.

Strictly enforced attendance quotas that impose no limit on delegates from IP-owning operating entities, but that do impose restrictions on the number of attendees permitted from other parts of the IP community, ensure the ideal mix of delegates and a perfect environment in which to trade experiences, exchange views and make new contacts.

With a mix of big-picture plenary sessions and more specialised afternoon breakouts, as well as a host of formal and informal networking opportunities, IPBC Global is specifically designed to meet the needs of a high-level delegate base that understands intellectual property is one of the pivotal business assets of the 21st century. And that is why every year the ‘sold out’ sign goes up well before the event gets underway.

We look forward to welcoming you to San Francisco this coming June.

Sector quotas

The last IPBC Global took place in Amsterdam in June 2014 and attracted a sell-out crowd of over 600. For the first time, we introduced a sector quota system in order to guarantee a variety of outlooks and experiences. This will be repeated for San Francisco in 2015, with quotas for the following:

  • Intermediaries and investors
  • Policy makers and academics
  • Private practice lawyers, patent and trademark attorneys
  • Other service providers

No limit is imposed on attendees from IP-owning entities.

Once we hit a quota limit, we will be unable to offer a place at IPBC Global 2015 to those from the relevant sector looking to register for the event. Thus, anyone wishing to attend is strongly advised to secure a place as early as possible.

The host

Intellectual Asset Management (IAM)  is universally acknowledged as the world’s leading IP business publication. It was launched in July 2003 to address the need for organisations to maximise the value of their intellectual property and other intangibles, and to examine the strategies they can put in place to do this. IAM is unique because it treats intellectual property as a business asset and tool rather than simply as a legal right. With this unequalled appeal to the boardroom, IAM has established itself as the only IP publication that many senior corporate executives read regularly.

Using our world-class corporate, financial, intermediary and legal contacts, a high-level faculty of speakers is once again being assembled for IPBC Global 2015. It will be made up of individuals in charge of intellectual property at some of the world’s most forward-thinking companies, both large and small; investors; senior aggregators; and intermediaries Their unique insights and experiences, presented in both plenary and breakout sessions, will provide delegates with a thorough understanding of the principles that lie behind the development of IP value creation strategies, as well as the many challenges – actual and future – that IP-owning companies face.

The IP Hall of Fame

The IP Hall of Fame honours those who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of intellectual property law and practice. Devised and developed by IAM, it identifies individuals who have helped to establish intellectual property as one of the key business assets of the 21st century. The aim is not only to acknowledge the vital role played by these innovators in fostering today’s vibrant IP environment and ensuring its continued health, but also to show how central intellectual property is to the global economy and to the wellbeing of people around the world.

The IP Hall of Fame welcomes new inductees on an annual basis. Via the nomination process, anyone in the global IP community can put forward a name to be considered by the IP Hall of Fame Academy, comprising all living IP Hall of Fame inductees and specially invited international IP thought leaders. A full list of academy members can be found at

On June 15 2015, at a gala dinner to be held at the five-star Four Seasons Hotel on Market Street in San Francisco, the latest individuals chosen for induction by the IP Hall of Fame Academy will be honoured by past inductees, members of the academy, IPBC delegates and invited guests.

We look forward to seeing you in San Francisco next June.
