IP Market 2.0

The overview

The IP Business Congress Global (IPBC Global) returns to Europe at a time when far-reaching reforms of the patent system could herald major changes in the continent’s IP marketplace. The introduction of the unitary EU patent and the Unified Patent Court will see the emergence of a single European patent jurisdiction with a population of over 500 million, including three G8 countries.

Although all of the details have yet to be ironed out, the consequences of the new regime look set to be profound, as the value of high-quality patent rights in Europe and the resulting potential for transactions increase. Already it is clear that the IP strategies of operating companies in the European Union will have to adapt to take account of the altered environment; while the likelihood is that the number of non-practising entities active in the region will grow substantially.

As the world’s premier event about IP as a business asset, the IPBC Global is the ideal venue at which to discuss what the new EU patent system will mean for monetisation, deal making, financing and other forms of IP value creation – not just for those already based in the region, but also for those looking to establish a presence over the coming years.

However, there is of course a big wide world of IP beyond Europe. The IPBC Global 2014 will address the most important strategic challenges facing IP owners, as well as those who advise them. The event will bring leading corporate IP decision makers, aggregators, investors, brokers and other intermediaries together with senior figures from the law, policy making and academia to discuss cutting-edge issues around the creation of IP value, with a special emphasis once again on the role of the chief IP officer and the various challenges facing those who hold such a position.

For anyone who regards IP as one of the pivotal business assets of the 21st century, the IPBC Global 2014 is a must-attend event. We look forward to welcoming you to Amsterdam in June.

The event

The IPBC will return to the Netherlands in 2014, when the seventh IPBC Global takes place at the Okura Hotel in Amsterdam from 22nd to 24th June.

The IPBC Global is widely acknowledged as the world’s principal forum for senior thought leaders who specialise in the business of IP to come together to discuss cutting-edge issues around IP value creation. With IP continuing to move further up the corporate and investment agenda, this focus is more relevant than ever before.

The last IPBC Global took place in Boston in June 2013 and attracted a sell-out crowd of 640. To maximise the educational and networking opportunities at the 2014 event, we have decided to cap attendance for the Amsterdam IPBC Global to 600. And for the first time, to guarantee a variety of outlooks and experiences, we are also introducing sector quotas for:

  • Representatives from IP-owning entities.
  • Intermediaries and investors.
  • Policy makers and academics.
  • Private practice lawyers, patent and trademark attorneys, and legal services providers.

Once we hit a quota limit we will be unable to offer a place at the IPBC Global 2014 to those from the relevant sector looking to register for the event. Thus, anyone wishing to attend is strongly advised to secure a place as early as possible.

The host

Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) is universally acknowledged as the world’s leading IP business magazine. It was launched in July 2003 to address the need for organisations to maximise the value of their IP and other intangibles, and to examine the strategies that they can put in place to do this. IAM is unique because it treats IP as a business asset and tool, rather than simply as a legal right. With this unequalled appeal to the boardroom, IAM has established itself as the only IP publication that many senior corporate executives read regularly.

Using our world-class corporate, financial, intermediary and legal contacts, a high-level faculty of speakers is once again being assembled for the IPBC Global 2014. It will be made up of individuals in charge of IP at some of the world’s most forward-thinking companies, both large and small; investors; senior aggregators; and intermediaries. Their unique insights and experiences, presented in both our plenary and breakout sessions, will provide delegates with a thorough understanding of the principles that lie behind the development of IP value creation strategies, as well as the many challenges – actual and future – that IP-owning companies face.

The IP Hall of Fame

The IP Hall of Fame honours those who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of IP law and practice. Devised and developed by IAM, it identifies individuals who have helped to establish intellectual property as one of the key business assets of the 21st century. The aim is not only to acknowledge the vital role played by these innovators in fostering today’s vibrant IP environment and ensuring its continued health, but also to show how central IP is to the global economy and to the wellbeing of people around the world.

The IP Hall of Fame welcomes new inductees on an annual basis. Via the nomination process, anyone in the global IP community can put forward a name to be considered by the IP Hall of Fame Academy, comprising all living IP Hall of Fame inductees and specially invited international IP thought leaders. A full list of members can be found at www.iphalloffame.com/Academy.aspx.

On 23rd June 2014, at a gala dinner to be held in the luxurious surroundings of the Krasnapolsky Hotel in Amsterdam, the latest individuals chosen for induction will be honoured by past inductees, members of the IP Hall of Fame Academy, IPBC delegates and invited guests.

If you want to join the world’s leading IP business thought leaders for three days of high-level debate that focuses on corporate IP value creation, then you cannot afford to miss the IPBC Global 2014.

We look forward to seeing you in Amsterdam in June.
